Dot NAME Domain Name Registrations

Started in 2001, the .NAME generic extension is the only one planned for personal sites only. These domains can consist of personal or fictitious names, aliases and/or other titles people are known by. Initially, just 3rd-level registrations were possible, so if you wanted to order john.doe.name, you would have to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were loosened and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already registered third-level names remained functional.
