Transferring an already registered domain name involves changing the registrar company that provides the domain registration service, so after the transfer, you’ll have to manage things like renewal payments or DNS resource record modifications through the new registrar. The transfer process is standard with most gTLD and ccTLD extensions. Some country-code extensions are more specific and entail different steps, but in the general case transferring a domain involves a few basic procedures and one of them is unlocking the domain. The lock is a security feature, which is being embraced by more and more domain registry operators. It is a default feature supported by all generic top-level domain names. If a domain is locked, it won’t be possible to start a transfer procedure, so no one can even try to take your domain. The domain lock can be removed only through the account where the domain name is registered in the first place and all new domain names that support this option are locked by default the moment they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Shared Hosting

If you get a Linux shared hosting package from our company, you will be able to manage all domain names registered through us using our Hepsia Control Panel and you will be able to unlock any of them with only a few clicks of the mouse. All registrations will be displayed in alphabetical order in the Domain Manager section of the Control Panel and for each one of them you will notice a tiny padlock icon. Clicking it will show you the present security lock status. If the domain is locked and you’d like to transfer it, you will just need to click once more and you will be all set. Locking a domain name is just as easy and since the domain names are administered in the same location as the web hosting account itself, you won’t need to log in and out of different Control Panels.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you have registered a domain through our company and you’d like to transfer it away, you can quickly unlock it via the very same Hepsia Control Panel, which you use to manage your semi-dedicated server account. All registrations will be shown in alphabetical order in your account and you will notice a mini padlock-like icon next to each domain name there, on the condition that its extension supports the registrar lock feature. You can see if the domain is locked or not by clicking on this icon and modify the current status by clicking on it again. You can then go ahead and initiate the domain name transfer process right away without needing to wait for the status to be updated on WHOIS lookup sites, as the update will take effect momentarily without you or us having to do anything else.
